DEADLINES SET FOR 2014 OLYMPICS

The initial field for the 2014 Winter Olympics will be set on July 28, 2005.

It is the date by which cities bidding for those Games must submit initial applications to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and it comes just over three weeks after the decision in Singapore for the 2012 Summer Games host.

The IOC released the timetable on the first day of this week’s executive board meeting, reports aroundtherings.com

February 1, 2006 is the deadline for the 2014 applicants to submit questionnaires to the IOC.

In June 2006 the IOC will then cull the group of applicants to a list of candidates, who then will have to file their bid books by January 10, 2007.

Visits by the IOC evaluation commission will be scheduled from mid-February to mid-April, with the commission report due one month before the July, 2007 IOC session in Guatemala City that will decide the 2014 winner.

So far, bids from South Korea, France, Sweden, Bulgaria and Austria are among the possibilities.
