Mr Pollard, who has been in both roles since 1983, said TA had been working towards a division of responsibilities for some months and it was appropriate the new structure should be announced in light of recent media speculation.
He said the CEO position would be advertised in the coming months with the position directly responsible to the TA board.
Mr Pollard said he would then focus on his role as president of TA.
"This decision is part of a wider restructure in Tennis Australia which has seen the creation of a new division to focus on player development, and the search for a director of player development to oversee and direct change in this important area of Tennis Australia's work," he said.
"The large growth in activity, particularly in the last few years, suggests it is timely to divide the responsibilities between two people which is what we propose to do.”
Meanwhile, leading telecommunications company, Optus, has stepped up its involvement in Australian tennis following the announcement of the most comprehensive sponsorship support for the sport ever seen in the country.
The announcement sees Optus increase its support to cover the Australian Open, the Optus Junior Tennis Tour (consisting of over 100 events) and the Optus national squad supporting 60 of Australia’s brightest young talents.
