ATP SERVES UP LUCOZADE AGREEMENT

The ATP has announced a partnership with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline for Lucozade Sport to become the ‘Official Supplier of Sports Nutrition Products to the ATP’.

Earlier this year, the governing body of the men’s international tennis circuit established a Task Force charged with finding long-term solutions to its players’ growing concerns about the risks of consuming contaminated supplements.

Having explored a number of options, the ATP Task Force decided that GlaxoSmithKline’s Nutritional Healthcare division was uniquely placed to use its expertise to help ensure that its Lucozade Sport products do not contain WADA-listed prohibited substances or compounds that can cause a positive finding.

Lucozade Sport will supply the ATP players with a range of key sports nutrition products, manufactured and packaged to provide players with a solution to their nutritional needs during match play and training.

A tailor-made educational support package has been designed that will see Lucozade Sport dietitians and ATP personnel work together to deliver sports nutrition workshops to the ATP players at several tournaments in 2005.

UK sports minister, Richard Caborn, said: “This is a perfect example of how industry can use its technology and expertise to help athletes and ensure sport remains fair and drug-free.”
