The original cost was set to be around $6billion but extra expenses have drastically increased the final bill, which is expected to be officially presented at the end of the month, reports ESPN.com
"The final bill will look very heavy when it is presented," finance minister George Alogoskoufis told Ethnos, a Greek daily newspaper. "The final cost will be far bigger than planned, mainly because of enormous extra expenses."
Some of those expenses came from late completion of Olympic venues and increased security.
The last official estimations came in mid-August, when Greek secretary of state for finance, Petros Doukas, announced a figure of $9billion.
