SHARAPOVA APPEAL FIRES CANON DEAL

Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova’s latest sponsorship deal is with camera-copier manufacturer Canon Inc., the Tokyo-based producer of cameras, copiers and computer printers.

It follows deals with phone company Motorola and perfume maker Parlux Fragrances Inc.

ESPN.com has reported that, according to sources, her three-year deal with Canon is worth nearly $6million, slightly surpassing the deal that the 17-year-old signed with Motorola in August.

Canon Inc. confirmed it had signed a multiyear worldwide marketing deal with Sharapova for global advertising, retail promotions and other events, Kyodo News Service reported.

Said Debra Epstein, vice president and general manager of corporate communications at Canon U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Canon: "Maria Sharapova's combination of style and substance is a natural fit for Canon.

"Her powerful game and approachable personality represent a perfect match for the Canon brand, and we are thrilled about the partnership."
