BUOYANT MARKET FOR BEIJING SPONSORS

The head of the IOC’s marketing commission says a three-day visit to Beijing this week to meet with current and potential sponsors “has gone very well”.

Gerhard Heiberg tells aroundtherings.com that Beijing organisers should have no trouble filling the nine or 10 top-tier national partnership categories by the end of the year.

Already six companies have signed on for these deals. They will cost upwards of $80million, more than the going rate for worldwide Olympic sponsorships.

Heiberg is heading from Beijing to Hong Kong for a speech to business leaders. He says the talk is part of efforts to include Hong Kong in the Olympics, being part of China.
