ZURICH DUMPS ENGLAND

Eighteen months before its current deal runs out, Insurance giant Zurich says it is to end its association with Premier Rugby.

It means the English Premiership is on the lookout for a new naming rights sponsor from the start of the 2006-2007 season, bringing to an end the company's eight-year partnership with club rugby in the UK.

RUGBYeNEWS.com reports that the decision to dump the sponsorship came following a review of Zurich's standing and marketing strategy.

The company's board found it had more than maximised its return on investment in terms of brand and name awareness, and also decided that continuing the sponsorship was no longer worthwhile under its new direction.

Change may now come sooner than expected, with Zurich giving Premier Rugby the option of ending the agreement at the end of the current season, should a new sponsor be found.
