CHINESE SOCCER THREAT

Chinese soccer's ruling body cancelled relegation from the country's top league after clubs expressed concern about match-fixing and threatened to withdraw from the Super League over the way the sport is run.

Bloomberg.com report that an emergency meeting between the Chinese Football Association and Super League teams was held on Monday and Tuesday after two matches this month were abandoned when teams left the field protesting referees' decisions.

Some teams, including Dalian Shide and Hyundai Beijing - the two that staged the protests - said they may pull out of the league unless changes to the sport's governance are introduced and they get a greater share of revenue.

The Chinese FA agreed to measures including making its finances public and said its ability to counter corruption is limited.

“We must reform,'' Dong Hua, a Chinese FA spokesman said. “We realise these problems are serious. But we don't have investigative powers and if problems occur we must refer them to the legal authorities.''

As well as suspending relegation this season and opening its finances, the Chinese FA has agreed to form a company jointly run with the clubs.

The teams have said the ruling body lacks transparency.
