LPGA UNVEILS SECOND MEXICAN EVENT

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) has confirmed a second tournament is to debut in Mexico next year.

The $1m Corona Morelia Championship will be played between April 21-24, at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Tres Marias Residential Golf Club in Morelia, Michoacan.

The 72-hole, stroke-play event will feature a 138-player field, which will include six Mexican-born players.

Said Ty M Votaw, LPGA commissioner: “Corona and the government of Michoacan are two top-level sponsors, the venue is magnificent and we expect the support of the local community to be overwhelming, so we are very pleased.”

Last month, the LPGA announced the $1.2m MasterCard Classic is to be played at Bosque Real Country Club in Mexico City, Mexico in March.
