SPAIN KEEN TO HOST IAAF WORLD CUP

Spain could stage the next IAAF World Cup in 2006 after the United States pulled out.

Los Angeles was expected to become the first US city to stage a major world athletics competition. But organisers were unable to guarantee that taxes would not have to be paid on the substantial prize money, reports the BBC.

The IAAF, the sport's governing body, confirmed that Spain, which hosted the last World Cup, has expressed its intention to bid for the event.
