UEFA SCORES WITH CUP TV DEALS

European soccer governing body UEFA has signed its first TV rights deals to the UEFA Cup finals in 2005 and 2006 – and the UEFA Super Cup match in 2005.

The two deals will see the games broadcast in the UK by free-to-air, terrestrial, commercial network ITV and terrestrial network M6 in France.
It is the first time ITV will show the competition. It has been a long-term partner of UEFA having held the rights on an exclusive, or shared, basis of the Champions League for many years.
M6 will also broadcast both games for the first time in its history.
UEFA added its new sales process, under which the rights were available for the first time to all broadcasters including those outside the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has so far resulted in ‘excellent agreements at a healthy financial level’.
Said a spokesman: “The high levels of interest in these rights already indicates strong demand and in the coming weeks, UEFA, through its marketing agency TEAM Marketing, expects to conclude similar agreements in a number of additional key territories."
