GRIZZLIES LAUNCH OWN SPORTS CHANNEL

NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies will launch Grizzlies Regional Sports Network, a 24/7 sports channel dedicated to sports fans in Memphis and throughout the Southeast.

In addition, the club’s website reports that the Grizzlies will partner with Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast to distribute games to 1.1 million homes on Comcast and Charter cable systems throughout Tennessee and parts of Arkansas, Mississippi and Kentucky.

Grizzlies Regional Sports Network and the Grizzlies/CSS partnership will debut on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, when the Grizzlies play host to the Washington Wizards in the first regular season NBA game played in the new state-of-the-art FedExForum in Memphis.

The game is the first of 60 games that will be carried by the network, with each game telecast including a pre-game and post-game show.

“The creation of GRSN and the Grizzlies/CSS partnership will help make this team a truly regional franchise,” said Grizzlies president of business operations Andy Dolich. “Plus we will offer Memphis sports fans an all-star line-up of their favourite teams, schools and events, including the Grizzlies, the University of Memphis, the University of Tennessee, other SEC and ACC schools, along with regional high school sports and other special event programming.”

The network will also include other professional sports programming from throughout the region, as well as college and high school sports produced by both the Grizzlies and CSS.

The Grizzlies join the Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Bobcats as NBA teams who are launching regional sports networks for the start of the 2004-05 season.
