NEW CANADIAN RUGBY PRESIDENT

Rugby Canada has appointed Edmonton lawyer Roger Smith as its new president.

RUGBYeNEWS reports that the move is seen as a massive step forward for the sport's expansion in the country.

Smith was one of the main players in moving international rugby into new frontiers in recent years, overseeing World Cup qualifiers in Edmonton and Calgary in 2002.

He also managed to successfully move the annual Churchill Cup from Vancouver to Alberta this year - including holding the final matches in the impressive 60,000 seat Commonwealth Stadium.
