While the decision of Zurich’s authorities not to go ahead with the stadium upgrade required to host matches in the city was a key concern of increasingly jittery UEFA, the executive is also worried about the level of support they are receiving on commercial and security issues.
It has become common practice for countries which stage major events to agree to change legislation to meet the demands of the competition but UEFA says the Swiss and Austrians have yet to adapt their laws to fight against illegal sale of tickets for the tournament.
They are also concerned about the lack of protection for commercial and intellectual property rights and the lack of funding for security measures.
At its meeting in Sofia, the executive committee also appointed TEAM Marketing AG as preferred agency for the marketing of the commercial rights to the UEFA Cup Finals 2004/2005 & 2005/2006 and UEFA Super Cup 2005.
