CARVALHO AND OWEN TOP SEARCHES

Barclays Premiership arrival Ricardo Carvalho and departing favourite Michael Owen were generating the most interest amongst fans, according to the latest figures from Megasoccer.com.

The specialist football search engine revealed that the recently signed Chelsea centre-back Carvalho, formerly of Porto, was the most searched-for player in August, after the Portuguese defender impressed with his commanding performances during Euro 2004.

Carvalho just edged out ex-Liverpool legend Michael Owen in the search charts, as the star striker left the Premiership to join England colleague David Beckham in La Liga. And Owen's new club Real Madrid was just ahead of Chelsea in the Top Ten search terms for the month.

Michael Flynn, CEO of Fast Web Media, the company behind Megasoccer.com, said: “The popularity of foreign players in the Premiership continues to grow as we see more of England's home-grown stars moving in the opposite direction.

“Megasoccer.com allows fans to follow the progress of their favourite players and teams wherever they are, and the diversity of the queries we have seen in the last month illustrates the appeal of the search to a global audience."
