SANZAR, the official body of the three participating countries - Australia, South Africa and New Zealand - said the Tri-nations would be increased from six to nine matches, with each country playing each other three times.
Two new teams for the expanded Super 14 competition will be established in Australia and South Africa. Australia currently has three teams while South Africa has four and New Zealand five.
SANZAR also announced it had extended its partnership for five more years and was negotiating a new broadcasting agreement.
