LANSDOWNE ROAD RULED OUT FOR WORLD CUP

Tagged in , , &

The redevelopment of Lansdowne Road has forced the Irish Rugby Football Union to announce that the three Rugby World Cup matches scheduled to be played at the ground in 2007 cannot be staged there.

The work, due to commence in 2006, will take two years to complete and the three pool matches due to be played at Lansdowne Road will be switched to France. The new venues will be confirmed when the playing schedule is finalised early next year.

The IRFU has also requested that consideration be given to staging the Irish pool games at venues that are accessible to Irish supporters, and to making special provision for Irish supporters in respect of ticket purchase.

The Rugby World Cup Limited and the French Rugby Federation are set to consider these requests in due course.
