Sportev in Premier League mobile deal

Sportev has reached an agreement with Hutchison Whampoa and CSL Hong Kong to provide video coverage of FA Premier League matches on mobile phones in Hong Kong for the next three seasons.

Hong Kong is the most lucrative market for FA Premier League broadcasts outside the UK and one of the fastest growing markets for video enabled mobile handsets.

Hutchison Whampoa, who also operate the UK mobile network “3”, have also renewed their FA Premier League mobile license in the UK.

Will Muirhead, chief executive at Sportev, said: “We are obviously delighted to have reached agreement with the two most important mobile operators in Hong Kong. CSL and Hutchison offer unrivalled network coverage across the territory and the very best in mobile video functionality.

“This is a landmark deal for Sportev. Not only have we opened up a lucrative new market, but we have also enhanced our range of services. As well as providing mobile video technical solutions to over 40 countries, we are now proving global mobile operators with media content. This is, and will continue to be, a significant new source of growth for our firm.”

Sportev, an official Premier League partner, has also retained the right to make a third English Premier League Mobile license available in Hong Kong.

Dr Mike Robey, CSL's chief operating officer, said: “We are delighted to enhance our football content with the world’s most popular football league – the English Premiership. CSL is dedicated to providing comprehensive football information to our customers.

“We launched “Football United” last year to provide the latest news on major football events, and CSL’s Integrated Mobile Betting Service, which enables customers to place bets on football matches via their handsets. With the introduction of English Premier League multi-media content, we believe we can bring a unique mobile experience to our customers.”
