Johan Prinsloo has been appointed managing director of SA Rugby, the commercial arm of the South African Rugby Football Union (SARFU).

Prinsloo, a former chief executive of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, had been the interim managing director for the last two months following the resignation in late May of Songezo Nayo. Nayo cited a breakdown of trust between himself, Brian van Rooyen, the SARFU president, Mike Stofile and Keith Parkinson his deputies, as the major reason for his departure.

In another development, the South African Rugby Players Association (SARPA) has been given a place on the board of SA Rugby. SARPA will be represented by Piet Heymans, the chief executive.

SARPA and the SARFU have recently been involved in a dispute over several matters, among them representation on the SA Rugby board and players contractual disputes
