Michael Zacharatos, ATHOC general manager of communications, said: “We had said that out of an overall 5.4 million tickets, the economic target could be reached (3.1 to 3.4 million tickets) and we have already covered 91 per cent of the target.”
“In Football the sales of tickets are increasing daily”, said Marton Simitsek, ATHOC chief operating officer, adding “we will have more than 75 per cent full stadiums for the whole of the tournament”.
More than 17,000 tickets were sold for football alone on Monday.
But with many tickets still available, organisers will be hoping that ticket sales continue apace with the start of the Games just three days away.
