Venn joins Formation

Darren Venn, former marketing manager of the Football Association, has joined the Fox Advertising division of Formation Group as director of commercial affairs.

Fox Advertising is the sports marketing division of Formation Group, the UK and European integrated football business that creates and delivers major sports-based campaigns to global brands.

Jim Foxcroft, managing director of Fox Advertising, said: “Darren brings a wealth of experience in sports marketing which will be of enormous benefit to the Formation Group as a whole as it continues to consolidate its position as the leading UK-based football marketing company.

“He will work across Formation‘s advertising and marketing divisions alongside our existing teams as they drive the business forward.”

Venn, 38, has worked in football marketing since 1988, spending the past three years in Italy as commercial director of Vicenza Calcio, the Serie B football team. He was responsible for all commercial aspects of the football club, including perimeter advertising sales, and generated income of 12 million Euros during his time there.

Previously, Venn was marketing manager of the Football League from 1988 until 1992, when it was still the country’s top division, before the Premiership was formed. Between 1993 and 1997, he was the FA’s marketing manager and took charge of the hugely successful Euro 96 tournament in England.

He then became commercial director of NFL Europe in 1997 before moving to ENIC Sports PLC again as commercial director the following year. Venn left to become a consultant to Franklin Sports Business from 2000 until 2001, when he joined Vicenza Calcio.
