The Naples club, believed to be in debt of around EUR70m, has failed to produce evidence it has the finances in place to compete in Serie B this year – and now faces demotion to the third division of Italian soccer.
Fellow club Ancona are also in the same boat after FIGC chiefs backed the findings of financial regulator Coavisoc this week.
Both clubs now have the right of appeal, with a decision expected by the time of the next meeting of the FIGC's federal council on August 12.
