According to reports in Asia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam have all joined forces to make the bid for the tournament. The bid has been confirmed by AFC chiefs.
This year’s event got underway in China at the weekend – but was strongly criticised by AFC general secretary Peter Velappan. He was furious over the poor crowds for the opening game between China and Bahrain.
Said the AFC chief: “Where were the people of Beijing? They promised us a full house.
“If this carries on, Beijing will no longer be the football capital of Asia and we will reconsider bringing AFC events to Beijing.”
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has received a joint bid from four nations to host the 2007 Asian Cup.
