And once Sportfive completes its de-listing from the Paris Stock Exchange, Krzentowski will become chairman too.
Darmon quit at the end of last week. He had notified the company of his decision to step down earlier in the year, after Advent and RTL took control of the company.
It marks the end of an era for the agency and for Darmon who has played a key role in the creation of the company. Yet he also oversaw it through some difficult times when personality clashes led to the departure of senior joint COOs Bernd Hoffman and Jerome Valcke and exposed the internal squabbles which had long been raging within the company.
Said a statement from RTL: “Following the acquisition of Sportfive S.A. by RTL Group and the funds managed by Advent International Corp. and Goldman Sachs, Jean-Claude Darmon has stepped down from his position as chairman of the board and as board member of Sportfive SA.
“Alain Krzentowski replaces him as board member and as managing director of Sportfive SA and will have full operational powers over the company.”
Thomas Rabe, chairman of Sportfive Luxembourg, has been appointed chairman of the board of Sportfive SA for the time being, before Krzentowski replaces him after the de-listing.
