IOC convinced Athens will be ready

The IOC’s chief inspector of preparations for next month’s Athens Olympic Games says he expects all problems to be resolved before the event gets underway.

Denis Oswald joined senior IOC executive Gilbert Felli in a two-day visit of facilities to ensure tight deadlines are still being met.

Said Oswald: “There are no major problems that can't be solved.”

However, he did express concern over infrastructure developments, but insisted that following meetings with Greek officials, the city would be ready in time.

Meanwhile, Fani Palli-Petralia, the deputy culture minister coordinating Athens' preparations says work will continue right up until the Games begin to ensure facilities are complete. The minister said the city was ‘battling hour by hour’ to be ready.
