According to figures released by media planning and buying firm Initiative Media, the average audience for around half of the matches played was in excess of 93m.
It provides yet another example of why the big brands are prepared to pay up to £20m each to become an official sponsor of the tournament, which ended at the weekend with the unfancied Greeks being crowned champions.
Said analyst Kevin Alavy: “If you're an advertiser or sponsor, this is a relatively unique opportunity to communicate with tens of millions of viewers in one hit.
"That's an incredibly powerful position that few other programmes or platforms can offer."
Initiative says once the final figures from around the world are collated, the global TV audience for the final between Greece and Portugal will be close to 150m.
