Sports Alliance fights flab

The Australian Football League, Cricket Australia and Netball Australia have teamed up to spearhead a major campaign to help fight childhood obesity.

The national partnership – the Sports Alliance – has made a multi-million dollar financial commitment to the cause.

Said AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou: “Childhood obesity is an undeclared epidemic.

“Australia has more than one million children classified as overweight or obese. Our campaign aims to change the quality of life for Australian children.”

The Sports Alliance has pledged $9m to the programme, which will see stars of the three sports help back a government push to crackdown on childhood obesity.
