Thai PM turns to music boss

Tagged in &

After failing in his efforts to finance a bid for a stake in English Premier League club Liverpool through a state-run lottery, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has turned to one of Thailand’s biggest entertainment companies.

According to reports, Thaksin has held talks with Paiboon Damrongchaitham, the chairman of GMM Grammy with a view to him lending him financial assistance as Thaksin looks to secure 30 percent in the club.

Although a deal has been agreed in principle, Thaksin’s financing took a blow after widespread criticism of a lottery to fund the bid forced it to be shelved.

The share in Liverpool will cost Thaksin and his Thai investors around £65m.
