SA pull plug on 2008 bid

Just weeks after winning the right to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa has pulled out of its bid to host the 2008 African Nations Cup.

With a decision due in July on the host for the 2008 event, South Africa’s decision to pull out leaves just Ghana and Libya in the frame.

Libya will be hoping for success to make up for its disappointment in bidding for FIFA’s 2010 event.

South African soccer chiefs said it was pulling out as a result of the FIFA success.
