Portugal strike called off

Tagged in &

A proposed strike by immigration officers in Portugal – set to coincide with soccer’s Euro 2004 – has been called off.

A spokesman for one of the unions representing staff said the industrial action will not impact on the tournament as it ‘does not want to responsible for anything going wrong during Euro 2004’.

The strike action could have delayed journeys in and out of the country for the millions expected to flood in during the event.

The strikes had been called as part of a campaign for higher wages.
