Fresh from its success in hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa has turned its attention to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
It has confirmed it is to bid for the event, and will, like with the Cricket World Cup, invite other African nations to host games.
The 1995 Rugby World Cup was the event which heralded South Africa’s return as a host of major sporting events, and now hopes are high that the investment and stadia being developed for the FIFA World Cup will ensure suitable facilities for rugby’s showcase event.
Japan, the US and New Zealand are all expected to also bid for the event.
