The return of the tournament had been met with surprise by some clubs and immediate rejection by others, however, FIFA says it has received confirmation from all federations that their clubs will take part.
The FIFA Club World Championship will replace the Toyota Cup from 2005 onwards. With a new six-team format, the tournament will return in Tokyo from December 11-18, 2005.
It will then take place annually with FIFA bearing all the costs for the teams and delegates from soccer confederations.
Soccer’s world governing body approved plans put before it by the board of FIFA Marketing & TV, whereby as of 2007, the television rights to each tournament will be open to separate public tender.
It has also extended the opportunities for brands to become associated with its properties by confirming four new categories of marketing partnerships.
