Golf’s Smurfit European Open in Ireland has confirmed this summer’s event will command record prize money.
Organisers have confirmed £2.2m will be up for grabs at the tournament staged at The K Club in Co Kildare – up £200,000 on last year.
The event takes place between July 1-4.
Meanwhile, Diageo Ireland has confirmed it is to become one of the three partner sponsors of the Smurfit European Open through the Budweiser brand. An official sponsor since 1995, Diageo Ireland join FC!ilte Ireland and Lucent Technologies as the tournament’s partner sponsors in a new three-year agreement.
