FIFA mutes Lions' roar

FIFA has upheld its penalty against Cameroon for wearing the controversial all-in-one Puma kit during the African Nations Cup this year.

FIFA chiefs stuck by the original punishment of a CHF 200,000 fine and a six-point penalty from their qualifying campaign for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The tough punishment could cost Cameroon far more in lost revenues should they fail to reach the 2006 tournament because of the point deduction.

They were punished after continuing to wear the kit in the knock-out stages of the competition after being warned by FIFA the Puma strip was not allowed.

Both Puma and Cameroon soccer chiefs had vowed to fight the penalties when they were originally announced last month.
