PKF hit out over F1 changes

A leading accountancy firm has hit out over recent proposals to change the rules of Formula One – saying the steps could adversely impact on those firms supplying the specialist technology.

Business advisors PKF, which has acted in the past as administrative receivers for the Arrows Formula One team, said the changes designed to make racing more affordable could back fire.
It says the changes, which would come into effect from January 2008, such as fitting cars with smaller engines and banning power steering and electronic driver aids, may make for a more even field on the track but could cause repercussions off it.
Said Philip Long, head of corporate recovery at PKF: "Richer teams spend heavily on finding new technologies, lighter materials and electronic devices that give their cars an edge, if these new proposes come into effect, the specialist organisations supplying these, many of which are based in the UK, may find themselves facing financial difficulties."
