Thaksin Shinawatra has long been linked with a move on the club – although speculation suggested he was on the verge of buying into the club after negotiations earlier this year, were, at the time, denied.
Now, however, it seems the politician will confirm that he is to buy a 30 percent stake in the club – a deal set to be confirmed at a joint press conference with Rick Parry, the club’s chief executive. Both are currently in Thailand.
The deal is reported to be worth £65m – with speculation the cash will be used to finance the club’s plans for a new stadium.
