The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has appointed Sydney lawyer Gary Flowers its new managing director.
He replaces John O’Neill who resigned in December, and has since become chief executive of the new-look Australian Soccer Association.
O’Neill is credited with sparking a major commercial revival of the ARU – culminating in the hugely successful staging of the Rugby World Cup last year.
Flowers will be ARU managing director and CEO until at least the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
