The two have signed a ‘memorandum of understanding’ (MOU) allowing Betfair to provide betting-related information that might help any future betting, match-fixing or cricket corruption investigation involving Australian players, officials or administrators.
Betfair has similar arrangements with a number of other sporting organisations, including the ICC, the English Football Association, the ATP and the UK Jockey Club.
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said both parties hoped they would never need to put the terms of the deal into practice.
UK and Australian privacy laws prevent Betfair from providing information on betting activity unless they make their customers aware of a signed agreement with any administrative body with which it wishes to share information.
Both parties made clear that the Cricket Australia/Betfair MOU does not involve any financial consideration and does not imply any endorsement by either party of the other.
Cricket Australia has signed a deal with Betfair to help with any future betting or match fixing allegations.
