Five battle for web 'Oscar'

The nominations for the prestigious Webby Awards – the online equivalent of the Oscars - have been announced, with the sports category set to be hotly contested.

The awards, judged and presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in the US, has pitted BBC Sport against ESPN.com, Eteamz.com, Streetplay.com and NASCAR.com’s TrackPass with PitCommand.

Voting on the nominations is open to the public from April 20 to May 7, with the winners announced online on May 12 on the WebbyAwards.com website.

Said Scott Bailey, vice president and general manager of NASCAR.com: “Our top priority is providing racing fans with the most in-depth experience possible when they can’t make it to the track. PitCommand is a perfect extension of those ideals and another example of the complimentary relationship our interactive business plays with the live broadcast event.”
