According to the Sports Recruitment Company, figures from the first quarter of 2004 reveal a shift in employment trends, with recruiters seeking expertise from outside the industry.
The company says it has seen the sports industry move away from the traditional recruiting patterns of sport, of hiring individuals with experience gained from within the industry, to searching for more classically trained skill-sets from outside of sport.
In the first quarter of 2004 alone, it says 60 percent of its placements have been individuals from outside the industry; a figure that has increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
Said director Will Lloyd: “Sport is a young industry that’s still developing, so it makes sense that for growth both in terms of size and professionalism, an influx of classically trained and experienced senior and middle management is required.
“Sport is different to other industries, as on-field performance can fundamentally impact the size and scale of a club or team, but there is still a need for the industry to develop best practice across the business disciplines that are making it up. I think this shift in recruitment patterns will have a positive impact on the future development of sport as an industry.”
