During a visit to Morocco – bidding to become the first African state to host a World Cup – Zapatero said his government would ‘fully support’ the Moroccan bid.
Morocco is seen by many as the only real competitor to South Africa – the hot favourite to win the right to host the 2010 tournament.
Other nations bidding include Egypt, Tunisia and Libya. FIFA will announce the winner next month.
