Sanjay Kumar, who along with Charles Wang owns both the Islanders and the Arena Football League’s New York Dragons, stepped down as chairman and CEO of the Computer Associates International (CA) after the company was bogged down in an accountancy investigation.
Four former finance executives have pleaded guilty to fraud or obstruction of justice charges.
The NHL team chief will stay with the company as chief software architect, and insists he is guilty of no wrong-doing.
Said the firm’s new chairman Lewis Ranieri: “The changes in Sanjay's role are not based on the conclusion that he engaged in any wrong-doing.
“Nonetheless, the conduct in question occurred during his tenure, and the board felt this action was appropriate.”
His position with the sport franchises remains unchanged.
The co-owner of the NHL’s New York Islanders has been forced to quit as chief of a major software company.
