Cass gets Ravens top job

The man who helped Jerry Jones buy the Dallas Cowboys has been named the new president of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens.

Lawyer Dick Cass, who also worked with Jones on a variety of franchise matters, including sponsorship contracts, the collective bargaining agreement and the salary cap, was appointed president after working with the Ravens’ new owner Steve Bisciotti in buying the team.

Cass replaces David Modell – son of Art Modell who ran the franchise for 43 years. Art Modell sold all but one percent of the Ravens to Bisciotti last week in a deal estimated at around $325m. Bisciotti had already bought a 49 percent stake in the team five years ago.
Said Bisciotti: “Dick has had involvement with every aspect of an NFL team, outside of coaching and scouting.
“His legal expertise, his working knowledge of the business, his relationships at the league office and the respect he has already earned around the league will be a significant asset for the franchise.”

Cass has also previously represented the estate of Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke in the sale in Daniel Snyder, and worked for the NFL in drafting the CBA in the early 1990s which remains in place today.
