Navigator steers EAA forward

UK sports marketing firm Navigator has signed a deal to become a major marketing partner of the European Athletic Association (EAA),

Navigator – whose two key executives on the account will be the well known duo of Glen Kirton and Matthew Argenti - will work with the EAA in the marketing of the partnership packages which form part of the EAA’s Championship Series of events.

Commercial rights to the series, including the broadcast contract already in place with the European Broadcast Union (EBU), are valued at B40 million.

The EAA is responsible for a range of international athletics events including the programme showpiece, the European Championships, to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2006, the European Indoor Championships, the annual Spar European Cup and Spar European Cross Country Championships and the European Indoor Cup.

Navigator, which recently joined the Real Affinity Group of companies, says the agreement signals to the market of its intent to compete at the top level for business involving the world’s most prestigious sports federations and their events.

Said commercial director, Matthew Argenti: “As our exclusive client in the world of athletics, Navigator is proud to be working with the European Athletic Association at the highest level and ensuring them of our complete commitment.”

For the EAA, chairman of marketing John Lister said: “In an increasingly competitive market, we felt the need of additional resources to help us market our commercial packages. We believe Navigator will give us both the necessary experience and focus.”

The rights were previously handled by Octagon.
