Serena's Athens boost

Tagged in &

Organisers of the Athens Olympic Games have received a boost after tennis sensation Serena Williams confirmed she would be competing, despite some reports suggesting security fears would keep her away.

Various newspaper speculation had hinted Williams was among a number of US athletes reconsidering plans to take part in the Games due to the heightening security fears.

Williams competed in the Syndney Games – scooping gold in the doubles with sister Venus.

Now she is determined to repeat the feat in the singles. Said Williams: “I am definitely planning on playing in Athens.

“I will not allow things that happen in the world stopping me from living my life.”
