Blatter bites at G14

Soccer lobby group the G14 has come under fire again from FIFA president Sepp Blatter who said the organisation displayed a lack of ‘respect’ to soccer’s ruling bodies.

He said the group – comprised of European soccer’s top teams – had made him ‘sad, not angry’ over plans to investigate the legal situation over not paying clubs for the use of players on international duty.

The G14 has long been pushing for compensation for clubs when players are used by national teams for the major international competitions. The call for payment has so far fallen on deaf ears with both FIFA and UEFA.

Said Blatter: “We need the big clubs – but they should have respect for the football authorities.
"I'm sad with this, not angry. I am the president of probably the biggest movement in the world and for them to put it in court makes me sad. I say let's have a dialogue."
