As the pressure mounts on Greece to deliver all the venues on time – and to avoid a repeat of the recent decision to shelve a roof on the swimming pool due to time constraints – the IAAF was told the Olympic stadium would be ready.
Athens chiefs also confirmed the venue will have a roof in place for the Games.
The Games start on August 13, but all venues need to undergo test events to ensure all runs smoothly when the eyes of the world fall upon the nation.
The IAAF council, staging a series of meetings in Athens, were told the main construction on the venue would be complete by next month, with the roof being put in place by June.
Said IAAF president Lamine Diack: “We are sure that we will have a good Olympic Games for athletics.''
