Security test as flame gets lit

As organisers of the Athens Olympic Games prepare for today’s symbolic lighting of the flame, the Greek government has confirmed the latest successful security test.

Hundreds of US commandos took part in a simulated chemical attack and hostage-taking situation, as Athens continues to ensure the event passes off trouble free.
Said a government statement; “The exercise was successful.
“It demonstrated that international cooperation is the strongest weapon against any threat against the safety of the Olympic Games.''
Meanwhile, more than 10,000 people are expected to watch the lighting of the Olympic flame which takes place today in Olympia.

It will be one of the first major events taking place in Athens in the run up to the Games – and is likely to be heavily patrolled by security guards.
