FIA approves WRC race

The FIA has given the go-ahead to the Wales Rally GB this year - but told World Rally chiefs it will be closely monitoring the event.

The FIA World Motor Sports Council confirmed its status on the WRC calendar and accepted the findings of the MSA Report regarding the safety of the public roads in Wales. But it has also decided that the 2004 event should be ‘observed’ to monitor the on-going speed camera situation.

Event organisers Rally GB Limited, welcomed the news with a firm commitment to ensure that road safety remains a priority for spectators and competitors.

Said Andrew Coe, chief executive, Rally GB Limited: “This means that Wales Rally GB is confirmed with its new dates from September 16-19. As such we can continue to work with the title sponsor, the Welsh Development Agency, supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, to develop the extensive plans for this year’s event, bringing significant economic benefits to the principality.”
