The warning comes just days after Athens chiefs confirmed they were scrapping plans to build a roof over the Olympic swimming pool after admitting it would not be ready in time for this summer’s event.
The building blunder is an embarrassing blow to Greece – coming just weeks after the new government vowed to deliver on all promises.
It is reported the IOC will now give Greek officials until the end of the month to make decisions on other projects which hang in the balance, before deciding whether to send in their own representatives.
Meanwhile, this week sees one of the most symbolic ceremonies leading up to the Games – the lighting of the Olympic torch.
The torch will be lit at Olympia – the birthplace of the Games – and televised around the world.
The Games take place between August 13-29.
